Dr. Alok Tyagi

Dr. Alok Tyagi is a senior psychiatrist, academician and mental-health professional based in Jaipur, with more than three decades of experience in Psychiatry spanning clinical practice, postgraduate medical education, research, academic administration and mental-health service development.
A Gold Medalist in MD Psychiatry (1989), Dr. Tyagi served as Senior Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, SMS Medical College & Attached Hospitals, Jaipur, until August 2026. He has also served as Superintendent, Psychiatric Centre, Jaipur, one of Rajasthan’s important specialist mental-health institutions.
Over his academic and administrative career at SMS Medical College and its associated institutions, Dr. Tyagi progressed through the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor and Senior Professor & Head. His experience encompasses the assessment and treatment of a broad range of psychiatric disorders, postgraduate teaching and examination, research supervision, faculty development, institutional administration and departmental leadership.
Institutional & Mental Health Leadership
Dr. Tyagi has held several important leadership and administrative responsibilities in the field of mental health.
As Former Superintendent, Psychiatric Centre, Jaipur, he was involved in the administration and functioning of a dedicated psychiatric institution, adding substantial institutional and service-management experience to his academic and clinical career.
He also served as Head of Institution & Mentor, Tele-MANAS Rajasthan, contributing to the establishment, operationalisation and quality development of the state’s tele-mental health services.
His responsibilities included quality assurance, credential verification, recruitment oversight, supervision of tele-mental health services and mental-health programme development.
He has also served as a Technical Advisor to the State Mental Health Authority, Government of Rajasthan, contributing to mental-health service development and implementation-related aspects of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
Academic & Teaching Experience
Dr. Tyagi has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
He has served as an MD Psychiatry Guide since 2013 and has guided or co-guided 19 MD Psychiatry dissertations. He has also served as a postgraduate examiner and Head Examiner for MD Psychiatry.
His academic and research interests have included:
